Philosophy and Aesthetics of African Music Performance

I am interested in how performance of music is manifested in traditional settings, how the practices are validated, mis/reinterpreted when the music is presented in contemporary contexts. More so, how the music continues to play a consistent role in creation of new meaning, based on impact of changing social demands as well as new artistic principles and how they influence the socio-cultural systems.
