The gaps in chemical security awareness and implementation have resulted in reported cases of theft and attacks involving chemicals. General statement on research area My interests are to fill this gap through chemical security research, training, and outreach campaigns for chemical security practitioners in academia, industry, and the informal sector (jua kali).

A simplistic definition of chemical security is the protection of chemicals against intentional misuse. Chemical safety on the other hand is protection of those using chemicals from the inherent hazards of chemicals. The training of chemists places a greater emphasis on chemical safety rather than on chemical security, a trend that is carried forward to industry where chemical safety is emphasized.
