| PhD research project: Large Scale Triggered star formation in the Milky Way:
Massive stars deposit enormous amounts of energy into the surrounding interstellar medium, both throughout their lives via winds and shocks, and afterwards through supernovae explosions. This energy compresses the nearby interstellar medium, triggering the formation of a new generation of stars, and possibly setting off a cycle of propagating massive star formation throughout giant molecular clouds. | | In this project we combine both the MeerKAT and SEDIGISM surveys to identify molecular clouds that are interacting with HII regions or supernovae. From this we are able to examine the differences between clouds that are interacting with SNRs and HII regions and the star formation contained within these clouds. | | During the PhD there is gain of experience working with large imaging surveys and MeerKAT data, and development of expertise in triggered star formation and the interpretation of radio, millimetre and sub-millimetre wave data.
